I’m 31 years old and I’ve always been an obsessive listener. I started out listening to Backstreet Boys as most 90s kids did, and then moved on to the Porcupine Tree, Pearl Jam and the lots, eventually finding my way into progressive metal, neo-classical and ghazals.
Lately, it irked me that I was missing out on understanding and appreciating music when it comes to more challenging compositions and I wanted to at least get started with an instrument and this desire led me to reach out to Raemus.
Learning guitar at the age of 31 seemed like an intimidating venture, but after my first chat with Rae, my woes turned into excitement and I wanted to plunge into the world of music as soon as possible. During this chat he asked me what I was hoping to learn, was it just to play the guitar and be able to jam with a group? He said he could get me there in 2 years if I practiced for half an hour a day. But when I mentioned that my objective was to appreciate music better, Rae shifted from teaching me to be a guitarist to a musician, and this gave me such a lift. He charted out a plan for me, with basic guitar exercises, music theory and even exercises to read sheet music.
It’s been 2 months since I’ve been learning with Rae and his passion for music is infectious. He has a penchant for explaining complex ideas in simple terms, setting the foundation of music and then guiding you to build on it brick by brick. I find this approach incredibly rewarding as it helps me internalize the concepts and understand music holistically.
Our sessions are usually for an hour, but every session spills over and that’s a testament to how much Rae likes to share his passion.
I’d hesitated for years to do this, I wish I had started sooner!
